British Columbia Home to quality copper-gold porphyry deposits
|The British Columbia Geological Survey believes WestKam Gold's Bonaparte property may contain the upper level of a large buried porphyry copper-gold system, as outlined in the 2012 report entitled "Bonaparte gold: another 195 Ma porphyry Au-Cu deposit in southern British Columbia?" Exploration at Bonaparte in 2013 and 2014 located a large intrusive structure and related anomalies that reinforce the property's bulk-tonnage, porphyry copper-gold potential.|
This month, the Red Chris Mine, a large copper-gold porphyry deposit in British Columbia, received permitting for full production from the B.C. Ministry of Energy and Mines. The operation will include conventional shovel, truck and open mining with a maximum mining rate of about 40 million tonnes per annum.
With 300 million tonnes of minable reserves and a 30-year projected mine life, Red Chris is being hailed as a prime example that good deposits can still be found and mined in B.C. The mine's opening was the subject of a recent story in the Vancouver Sun.
